RECOGNIZING OUR PRINCIPALS!

As October is National Principals Month, we are using this opportunity to spotlight our building leaders.

Dr. Kim Anderson, East Elementary

What was your favorite subject when you were in school?
My favorite subjects in school were Math and Science. Before going into administration, I taught middle school math and science for 23 years.

What’s something about you that students might be surprised to learn?
Something students might be surprised to learn about me is that when I was in school, I was very talkative. In fact, there were times my teachers had to let my parents know about it!

What’s your go-to snack or drink during the school day?
My favorite go-to snack at school would probably be orange TicTacs.

If you could give one piece of advice to students, what would it be?
Embrace every opportunity that comes your way at school. The more you get involved and the more new things you try, the richer your experiences will be — and those experiences will continue to enrich your life long after school.

What’s your favorite part of being a principal?
Being a principal means I get the joy of seeing our students shine and the privilege of working alongside staff who make our school great!

Thanks, Dr. Anderson, for being a wonderful leader and mentor to your Panthers!

Jersey 100 is excited to share a wonderful opportunity for our youngest readers (from birth to age five) through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library!

Launched in 1995 by Dolly Parton, this inspiring program began in her hometown in East Tennessee with one simple but powerful goal—to foster a love of reading among young children and their families. Each month, every registered child receives a high-quality, age-appropriate book delivered directly to their home, addressed specially to them, at no cost to your family.

We do want to thank the Jersey County Sheriff's Office for their generous donation towards this program for the children of Jersey County. We are deeply grateful to the Regional Office of Education #40 and the Calhoun County Foundation for their leadership and support in bringing this incredible opportunity to our region’s families. Their efforts were instrumental in making the Imagination Library a reality for our community.

To learn more or register your child, visit Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Click on "choose country," click on "check availability," then click on "next" to select the United States, and then follow the next few steps by adding your child's information.

Let’s help our children discover the magic of reading—one book at a time!

JCHS College and Career Readiness students partnered with West Kindergarten classes. High schoolers experienced service learning and got to add value to the resumes they are building while kindergarteners got to practice reading with role models. End results for all include: increased confidence, community connections, and memories that will last.

RECOGNIZING OUR PRINCIPALS!

As October is National Principals Month, we are using this opportunity to spotlight our building leaders.

Mrs. Kristie Hurley, West Elementary

What was your favorite subject when you were in school?
English (really anything that allowed me to read)

What’s something about you that students might be surprised to learn?
My students are ages 3, 4, 5, and 6--so they are always amazed to learn that I don't live at school! It's so funny when I see them out and about--they are shocked!

What’s your go-to snack or drink during the school day?
Pepsi Zero

If you could give one piece of advice to students, what would it be?
Be curious, be kind, and always believe that you can do hard things.

What’s your favorite part of being a principal?
My favorite thing about being an early elementary principal is seeing the wonder in students’ eyes as they discover new things. I love the joy in their voices when they’re proud of their work, the kindness they show each other, and the pure excitement they bring to school each day. It’s an honor to help guide their very first steps in learning and growing!

Thanks, Mrs. Hurley, for being a wonderful leader and mentor to your Panthers!

Mr. Nick Crnokrak, JCAP

What was your favorite subject when you were in school?
My favorite subject was History. I've always enjoyed learning about the past and how things have changed over time.

What’s something about you that students might be surprised to learn?
Students might be surprised to learn that I went cage diving with Great White Sharks off the coast of South Africa during a Study Abroad trip during college.

What’s your go-to snack or drink during the school day?
Coffee, Sweet Tea, or Water

If you could give one piece of advice to students, what would it be?
My piece of advice for students would be that you do not have to let your current circumstances define the rest of your life. Try new things and do not let the fear of failure keep you from trying.

What’s your favorite part of being a principal?
My favorite thing about being a principal is that every day brings new challenges and opportunities to try to make a positive impact.

Thanks, Mr. Crnokrak, for being a wonderful leader and mentor to your Panthers!
