Commitment to Special Education Services
Jersey CUSD No. 100 is committed to providing services to students who are eligible to receive special education services. Ensuring that all educational needs are met, special educators expand opportunities for students so they develop the skills necessary to be successful at the next grade level. An environment that is rich in resources with modified learning experiences is necessary for success, which is the overarching goal of the department. Our staff is comprised of professional educators with expert knowledge of differentiated instruction who ensure that students are provided with the best learning opportunities to expand their academic, emotional, and social growth.

CONTINUUM OF SERVICES

Jersey CUSD No. 100 has a continuum of services that begin with general education. Instructional programs expand learning opportunities for students who are taught content and skills in specified content areas in special education classrooms. Co-teaching special education classrooms are district programs utilized to meet the diverse needs of students in the classroom.  Co-taught classrooms rely on a special education teacher and general education teacher to fully share instructional responsibilities, including lesson planning, instruction, grading, intervention, and communication with parents’ families. Both teachers work with all students in the classroom and ensure that any necessary accommodations are provided to students with disabilities. The Learning Lab/At-Risk program at JCMS and JCHS provides support and interventions to identified at-risk students in subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women. The staff in the room work closely with parents, teachers, administrators, counselors, social workers, and other outside agency personnel to enhance students’ school performance and promote social skills with peers and adults. The Learning Lab Educators work closely with the At-Risk Coordinator to implement Response to Intervention (RTI).  The Learning Lab Educators report to the Director of Special Education.
