FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT: ILLINOIS
In compliance with state law (5 ILCS 140/1), each Illinois school district is required to post specific information regarding the district as part of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requirements. This information is contained on the district website. If you are unable to find the specific information for which you are searching, you may request copies of existing documents using the Request to Inspect and/or Copy form.
Jersey CUSD No. 100's procedures for handling FOIA requests are found in the Administrative Procedures 2:250AP for Board Policy 2:250 (Access to District's Public Records and Compliance with the Illinois Freedom of Information Act).
NEW FOIA AMENDMENTS TO EASE THE BURDEN ON PUBLIC BODIES
On December 3, 2014, the Illinois General Assembly voted to override Governor Quinn's veto of legislation amending FOIA to reduce some of the burdens faced by public bodies in responding to certain requests. As a result of the override, the amendments are effective immediately. In summary, the law amends FOIA by: (1) eliminating the need to provide copies of records which are available on the public body's website; (2) defining a "voluminous request"; (3) establishing a different time frame and system for responding to a "voluminous request"; and (4) allowing a public body to charge fees for electronic copies and hourly rates for responding to a "voluminous request".
