JCMS had a fun-filled and festive day of celebration and learning. Outdoor band concerts by the JCMS 7th grade band and JCHS jazz combo, Caitlin Alifirenka author visit, ugly sweater and door decorating contests, Christmas trivia challenge, and a visit from Santa with Rudolph and Buddy the Elf. It was a great day to be a Panther! Merry Christmas from the JCMS family! (Social distancing was observed in all occasions. Photos snapped quickly - with masks in place.)
JCMS concluded our new reading initiative called “One Book, One School” with a live, virtual author visit from Caitlin Alifirenka, co-author of I Will Always Write Back. Through an energetic and engaging session, she told the story of her friendship with Zimbabwean penpal Martin Ganda and how they changed each other’s lives. Our students really connected with her message of “Kindness is Contagious.”

While quarantined, Elizabeth still managed to exceed her $200 goal by using her resources from home. We are very proud of these girls and all the students who participated for their hard work and caring spirit!

Happy Thanksgiving from East Elementary. East Elementary is a great place to work and learn. Claire and Ariana, two students in Mrs. Gray’s fourth-grade class, designed a poster that lists ten things they love about East Elementary. The girls made their list and then added photos from around the school. Mrs. Kolkmeyer at JCHS printed the poster for them. They then hung the sign at East and invited everyone to add all the things they love about East Elementary to the wall on a sticky note

This is a post from the East 4th grade Video Club. Masks By: Cooper Hoyt and James Thompson- 4th grade Mrs. Amy Gray's Classroom This school year is different because we have to wear masks and wearing masks are not bad at all. Masks keep us safe. Masks are keeping us safe from spreading Covid19. You get mask breaks lots of times. Mask breaks are outside, and we spread out so that we are not close to each other. We have lanyards to hold our masks when they are not on our faces. When we are wearing masks, we don’t have to smile for pictures, and when it is cold outside, it keeps our noses warm. The masks also keep out some bad smells. People get to wear the type of masks they like, such as black, tie-dye, and decorative like space, crayon face, and monsters mouths. It can be fun to pick out cool masks. Plus, at the end of the day, we don’t even realize we are wearing masks. It is a big change, but masks aren’t all bad.
