This information is to clarify the device that students in District 100 grades 5 - 12 will be issued this school year. All students in good standing that have paid the appropriate fees will be issued an Asus C202S Chromebook. This device is a school owned device similar to the Lenovo laptops used in past years, and the student and his or her parents accept responsibility for it when issued.

These Chromebooks were leased with a warranty and insurance for accidental damage. This insurance includes an escalating copay. The Technology Fee was reduced from $85 to $50 for all students. Additionally, District 100 will no longer provide backpacks for students. Students that have a District 100 issued backpack will be encouraged to use it, but it is not a requirement. If a student is not using a District 100 issued backpack, their parents will be required to provide a backpack with padding for the Chromebook or a Chromebook sleeve that fits inside a backpack to carry their Chromebook in. The dimensions of the Asus C202S Chromebook are 12 x 7.8 x 0.8 inch and it is only 2.6lbs.

Students will still have the opportunity to bring in their own device (BYOD). The fee for BYOD remains at $25 this year. It is our hope that the reduction in the Technology Fee and the addition of accidental damage insurance will encourage everyday use of these learning tools.

I hope you are having a great summer break, stay safe and we’ll see you in August!
