Lori Franke-Hopkins graduated from Calhoun High School in 1985. After attending Southern Illinois University Carbondale for a semester, she enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. She attended boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina, and then traveled to Lackland Air force Base, USMC Detachment, where she participated in Military Police training. Earning meritorious promotions to Private First Class and Lance Corporal, she was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort, S.C. for the remainder of her enlistment. She returned to Illinois where she served as Security Shift Manager for the Alton Belle Casino before returning to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She earned secondary English education certification and began her professional education career at Carrollton High School, teaching English, drama and speech communication. During her teaching tenure, she earned a Master’s degree in Secondary English Education. She then accepted employment at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville as Testing Administrator during which time she earned certification in Educational Administration. Taking on the challenge of directing the teacher education program at Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois, Hopkins taught prospective teachers courses in assessment, technology integration, and introduction in education. Additionally, she supervised students in their clinical observation and student teaching experiences. In 2009, Hopkins assumed the role of Assistant Principal at Jersey Community High School, working specifically in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Following three years at JCHS, she took on the role of principal at the newly renovated East Elementary. She earned her Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) in Educational Leadership in 2012. In January 2013, she was named the new 2013-2014 Jersey 100 Superintendent and began her transition under the guidance of Mr. Ed Settles. She started her term as  superintendent on July 1, 2013. She earned a Doctorate in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.) in May 2014. Hopkins is married to Scott who serves as school administrator in the Southwestern school district. They have three daughters: Shayelle (25), Delani (15), and Korrie (12).
